Come inside
This started as a stack of painted pages. Then the residents began moving in.
In this little tour, I'll flip through the Mansion and show you the rooms, characters, pockets, hidden details and page spreads that appeared as I kept creating.
A peek inside
A pumpkin patch. A strange little laboratory. A wall of suspicious family portraits. Spider webs, hidden residents and rooms that seem to have stories of their own.
These are some of the pages I've created inside my Mansion. Yours can follow the same projects, wander in a completely different direction — or do a little of both.
And that's really the fun of it: one resident suggests a room, one room suggests another detail, and suddenly you're building a whole world.
Make it yours
I'll show you how I build the pages, create the residents and add all those strange little details — but you get to decide what happens in yours.
Follow a project exactly. Borrow one idea. Change the colors. Invent a different resident. Turn a pocket into something completely unexpected.
There is no perfect finished Mansion we're trying to reach. We're building a world by playing with the possibilities.
Build the world
There is no required order and no finish line. We're simply giving the Mansion more personality every time we create.
Build spooky page spreads and little scenes throughout the Mansion — rooms, walls, strange corners and places for our residents to inhabit.
Pockets, doors, windows, pull-outs, portraits, hidden objects and unexpected paper details make the Mansion something you want to keep exploring.
Create wonderfully weird monsters from familiar spooky characters — then figure out where each one belongs inside your Mansion.
Make the pages you love. Borrow the ideas that spark something. Change everything you want. Your Mansion gets to become entirely your own.
Monster Mayhem residents
I'll show you how mine come together — and then we'll figure out where they belong.

Included inside the mansion
The Monster Machine is my playful generator for getting us somewhere unexpected.
Mash up familiar monsters, exaggerate something, add an oddity and see what happens.
Maybe you get Vampire + Black Cat. Pumpkin + Spider. Frankenstein + Ghost.
The Machine doesn't tell you what to draw. It simply gives you ingredients for an idea.
A little monster research
What makes a ghost immediately feel like a ghost? What makes a zombie read as a zombie? What happens when you exaggerate the cat's eyes or make the spider's legs ridiculously long?
Monster Studies are quick explorations of familiar spooky characters — ghosts, bats, zombies, witches, cats, spiders and more.
We'll notice the features that make each one recognizable, experiment with exaggeration and build a little library of ideas to pull from as we invent our Mansion residents.
Keep the cards nearby — or tuck them right into the Mansion.
Inside the Monster Mansion
Come inside whenever you're ready. Explore the page projects, create wonderfully weird residents, experiment with interactive details and choose the ideas that make you want to keep playing.
Monster Mayhem
Monster Mayhem is my spooky-season experiment: what happens if I keep creating inside one wonderfully weird Mansion?
Some days a new resident might move in.
Other days we might build a portrait gallery, discover a hidden staircase, make a peculiar pocket, decorate a room or find somewhere to stash our Monster Studies.
I'll keep sharing what happens — and adding selected projects, videos and creative ideas inside the course.
Follow everything, make your favorite pieces, change my ideas completely or simply use the Mansion as inspiration for your own.

Hi, I'm Jen
I love taking simple shapes, painted paper, ink, watercolor and little unexpected details and seeing what they might become.
Monster Mansion is exactly the kind of world I love to create.
We start with simple materials and a few strange ideas — and slowly they become characters, rooms, stories and little places that didn't exist before.
You don't need to make your Mansion look like mine.
I'm inviting you inside mine so it can spark ideas for yours.
